How To Let Go Of The Past

In this post, I will show you how to let go of the past and your old limiting beliefs so you can gain back your power to create the future that you want. 

All of us want to create a better more positive and abundant future but we carry with us all of our emotional burdens of our past. 

We fail to realize that a preliminary step to creating a better future is letting go of your past. In order to let in the new, you must let go of the old.

This will be challenging but once you start this process, you will feel a lot better about yourself and improve your heart and mind relationship. 

It will be so worth it because you will be freed from identification with the past and gain the freedom to create the future that you actually want. 

So let’s get right into it.

Step 1: Understand that both past and future exist as a possibility. Just like anything is possible in the future, anything was always possible in the past. 

Whatever happened to you in the past was simply one script out of the infinite amount of scripts that could have played out. And just because the script played out in a certain way, it doesn’t mean you have to identify with it and hold that to be you forever. 

Look at the past in the same way you look at the future. You don’t identify with your future because anything is possible. Same way, look at the past in this manner and it will start to hold less meaning. 

Obviously this is harder than looking at the future because a script already did play out but as you continue to look at your past like this, you will start to take it less personally. 

You will reduce the past’s importance in your life and will gain back power from it.

Because as long as you identify with the past, it controls your energy in the present moment. Once you let the past go, it has nothing to hold onto and cannot take any more energy out of you.

I’ll be honest with you this is something that I am constantly working on as well. But once I started this process I began releasing my limiting beliefs about myself and started releasing the social conditioning that had been imposed upon me through countless things. 

To give you a personal example,

A limiting belief that I had to let go of was regarding self worth. A lot go people in my past always counted me out and considered me to be dependent. This made me feel like an extra in my own movie. I felt that I wasn’t as capable as others and started to hold limiting beliefs about myself since a young age.

I began to notice that my ambition to succeed, own my own business, and make more money was all fueled by the need to prove my self-worth to others. 

But once I acknowledged this, I realized that I don’t have to prove my self-worth to anybody. I am worth just as much as anybody else and am as valuable to the world as anybody else. And that I could have my ambition to succeed be fueled from positive emotions instead of negative.

With this realization I also ended the repetition of my past. As Long as I had held that limiting belief  about myself, situations always came up in which I needed to prove my worth to others. 

But once I acknowledged this deeper belief that was holding me back, those situations ceased to exist. I ended this repeating cycle. 

See when we hold onto the past we get stuck in a pattern. The past continues to repeat itself in our lives through different ways. 

That is why people end up in relationships with the similar types of people and ask why they keep attracting the same type of person. 

It’s because they haven’t yet let go of what happened to them in the past. They carry the past with them and wear it on their sleeve as identification of who they are. They create their future from the same emotions and beliefs, therefore they keep recreating the past in new different ways – all leading to the same result as before. 

This brings us to #2.

Step 2: The only thing you can know for sure is that when the past was here, you experienced it as the present moment and when then future comes, you will experience it as the present. 

This brings us to the conclusion that the present moment is the only thing that truly exists and is the only thing that is truly real. 

So realize that in this moment, you can be who you choose to be. You do not need approval from somebody else or be in alignment with what you did in the past. In this moment, you are free to be whoever you want to be and pursue any path you find suitable for yourself.

Therefore, start to only value the present moment and realize you can be who you choose to be RIGHT NOW.


The past and the future only exist as a possibility and the only thing that is real is the present moment. In this present moment, you can be who you want to be regardless of what you have done or not done in the past.
